After a string of three wins, the Cypress Creek Coyotes 's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were outmatched by Wesley Chapel on the road and fell 72-42. While losing is never fun, Cypress Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 385th, while Wesley Chapel is ranked 168th).
Despite the loss, Cypress Creek saw an underclassman step up: Carinne Washington scored 18 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Ava Wyatt, who scored nine points.
Cypress Creek struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Wesley Chapel pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Wesley Chapel got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dayla Christopher out in front who scored 15 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Sanai Forrester-Jhagroo was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.
Cypress Creek's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Wesley Chapel, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cypress Creek won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Tarpon Springs at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Tarpon Springs is out to stop a seven-game streak of losses at home. As for Wesley Chapel, they will head out on the road to face off against Land O' Lakes at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
