2A/1A Conference 16 recap October 8, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A/1A Conference 16 this week, Whiteville beat St. Pauls 24-20. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
West Columbus fell to Fairmont 36-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Rostin Bromell was a bright spot for the Vikings, as he ran for 36 yards and caught 2 passes for 16 yards in the defeat.
South Robeson's dynamic duo of Kalvis Chavis and Michael Smith proved tough for East Columbus to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Chavis threw for 185 yards and 3 touchdowns and Smith had 144 yards receiving. Daquinn Lindsay helped South Robeson's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 21 yards.
He went 6-9 with 1 interception.
5-foot-9 quarterback Malik Livingston of the Bulldogs is the league leader in passing yards this season with 689. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Samuel Dixon, Jr. The South Columbus star has 15 catches for 337 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when South Columbus's Dixon, Jr goes up against the Mustangs' Smith.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when South Robeson takes on the Stallions. At the moment, Stephen Roberson's team is in second, while South Columbus is in fifth.
The Mustangs made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,294 from 6,732. The advance stemmed from a 26-6 victory over the Gators last week.
