The Hondo Owls will head out on the road to challenge the Lytle Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Hondo comes in on three and the Pirates on eight.
Last Friday, Hondo humbled the Wolves with a 63-16 victory. That 47 point margin sets a new team best for Hondo this season.
In what's become a running theme this season, Lytle gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They blew past Dilley, posting a 94-17 win on the road. Given Lytle's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 365th, while the Wolves are ranked 1556th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Calyssa Sevier continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 31 points, ten rebounds, and 11 steals. Sevier is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 17 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Garcia, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Hondo has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. As for Lytle, they pushed their record up to 24-7 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Hondo was dealt a bruising 69-39 loss at the hands of the Pirates in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sevier, who dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 13 rebounds, and ten assists. Now that Hondo knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
