The Fike Demons waltzed into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins but they left with four. They enjoyed a cozy 47-33 victory over West Johnston. Given Fike's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while West Johnston is ranked 417th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jewel Brewington was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds. The match was her sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylar Horvath, who scored eight points.
Fike's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for West Johnston, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Fike won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against SouthWest Edgecombe at 6:00 p.m. on December 13th. One thing working in SouthWest Edgecombe's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. West Johnston will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Riverside-Durham at 10:00 a.m. on December 27th.
