ALA - Gilbert North has gone a perfect 5-0 against Combs recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. ALA - Gilbert North can't be too worried about heading out to take on Combs: they just beat Alhambra at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Eagles walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Lions on Tuesday. Eight seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
ALA - Gilbert North got a great performance from Braden Maine as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Maine has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tate Clarkson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024. Nash Bigham was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Combs fell victim to Eastmark and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Firebirds, falling 10-0.
Combs saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Giovanni Sanchez Vasquez, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
ALA - Gilbert North's victory bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Combs, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14-1.
Combs' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: ALA - Gilbert North has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Combs, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given ALA - Gilbert North's sizable advantage in that area, the Coyotes will need to find a way to close that gap.
ALA - Gilbert North took their win against Combs in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
