Lake Central has gone 9-1 against Chesterton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Indians will host the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lake Central 2.8, Chesterton 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Lake Central is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Penn, who was ranked fifth at the time (Lake Central was ranked fourth). The Indians came up short against the Kingsmen on Saturday, falling 14-5. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lake Central got a good showing from Luke O'Keefe, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. O'Keefe has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Drew Kosteba was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Dylan Hein, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chesterton). Everything went their way against Hammond Morton on Saturday as they made off with a 20-1 victory. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by nine runs or more this season.
John Knight made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Knight was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Andrew Goveia was incredible, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli McLelland, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Chesterton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hammond Morton only posted an OBP of .263.
Chesterton is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-2.
Lake Central skirted past Chesterton 2-0 in their previous matchup back in June of 2024. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
