The May River Sharks 's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight loss. They fell to Colleton County 53-49. The contest was a 23-23 toss-up at halftime, but May River couldn't quite close it out.
Despite the loss, May River still got an impressive performance from Ashleigh Williams, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. Williams is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Brooke Dalton, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, May River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colleton County only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Zariona Hudson had a dynamite game for Colleton County, scoring 29 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hudson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xiomara Oxner, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
May River dropped their record down to 6-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Colleton County, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-18.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. May River will take on Bluffton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bluffton will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something May River surely won't give up without a fight. As for Colleton County, they will be playing at home against Lucy Beckham at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Colleton County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Lucy Beckham is ranked 46th).
