Adding to the longest winning streak in 6A Region 2 this week, Starkville beat Murrah 48-28. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Yellowjackets.
Northwest Rankin took down Greenville-Weston 40-19 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Starkville's dynamic duo of Princeton Jones and AJ Brown proved tough for the Mustangs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Jones threw for 197 yards and 2 touchdowns and Brown had 78 yards receiving. Fontavious Smith helped Starkville's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 49 yards.
Malik Dear was a force in the backfield as Murrah lost to Jaime Mitchell's team.
He went 10-12 with 1 interception.
Madison Central's Joseph Willis and Keenan Barnes led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-5 quarterback Willis has thrown for 1,699 yards this season, while Barnes has 51 catches for 843 yards. Zack Grady's team's Marquisian Chapman leads the league in rushing yards with 1,241.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Starkville takes on second place Warren Central. Last week, the Yellowjackets beat the Mustangs, while Warren Central defeated Clinton.
Two of the top teams in 6A Region 2 will go toe-to-toe this week when Starkville takes on the Vikings. The Yellowjackets' offense has recorded 308 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Warren Central has permitted only 104 on the year.
Starkville led the league in scoring this week by notching 48 points on Murrah. Jones ran for 34 yards in the win.
