Archbishop Mitty is 1-9 against Saint Francis since June of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Monarchs will head out to take on the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Archbishop Mitty 2.8, Saint Francis 1.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Archbishop Mitty took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They skirted past St. Ignatius College Preparatory 2-1.

Kyleigh Mace spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Archbishop Mitty's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa (Lou) Hahn, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Hahn has brought in this season.
Meanwhile, Saint Francis waltzed into their game on Friday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Fightin' Irish a 10-0 shutout. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 contests by six runs or more this season.
Saint Francis also got a great performance from Hailey Nguyen as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, Nguyen is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, Peyton Tsao and May Meltz did most of the damage at the plate: Tsao went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Meltz went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Meltz a new career-high. Jaime Oakland was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Saint Francis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.
Saint Francis pushed their record up to 23-2 with the victory, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Archbishop Mitty, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-1 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Archbishop Mitty has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Saint Francis struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Archbishop Mitty couldn't quite finish off Saint Francis when the teams last played back in April and fell 3-1. Can the Monarchs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
