Baseball Recap: Houston Sets Scoring Season-High Against Greenwood

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Houston). They never let the Greenwood Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 25-0 win on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Hilltoppers, who have now won six games in a row.

Takoda Harrell and Adam Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Harrell tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Smith pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Harrell went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI, while Smith scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Harrell a new career-high in runs (three).

In other batting news, Gavin Smith was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Rob Hancock was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

Houston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .861. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Houston pushed their record up to 16-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Greenwood, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Houston will venture away from home to face off against West Union at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hilltoppers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Greenwood, they will head out to challenge Amanda Elzy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
