On Saturday, the Organ Mountain Knights faced the Roswell Coyotes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 56-27 blowout they got at home against Roswell. The result was nothing new for Organ Mountain, who have now won four contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Organ Mountain had a senior duo take command as Caitlin Turnbow dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds and Helena Strawbridge scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Turnbow has scored at least 25% of Organ Mountain's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Yvanna Villarreal, who scored nine points.
The victory was the third in a row for Organ Mountain, bringing their record for this year to 7-4. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 25.67 points. As for Roswell, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Organ Mountain will take on Los Lunas at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Los Lunas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday. Roswell and Las Cruces will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Las Cruces is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53 points per game.
