The Simeon Wolverines suffered their biggest defeat since December 26, 2023 on Saturday. They took a serious blow against Westinghouse, falling 53-26. While losing is never fun, Simeon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Westinghouse is ranked 116th).
Janiya Pillow and Mariyah Robinson certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Pillow scored 13 points along with two steals, while Robinson scored three points along with six rebounds and three steals. Robinson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Simeon struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Westinghouse racked up 15 assists.
Westinghouse's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamilah Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Jackson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Tiara Harris was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Simeon dropped their record down to 9-10 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Westinghouse, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simeon will take on Clark at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Westinghouse, they will play host again and welcome Kennedy, where tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
