The Parker Thundering Herd had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top against Pleasant Grove by a score of 53-43. Given Parker's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Pleasant Grove is ranked 257th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Parker was led to victory by Ishmael Shelton and Nathen Henley. Shelton scored 16 points, while Henley scored 16 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Shelton has scored at least 25% of Parker's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mykell Echols, who scored 7 points.
Parker is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Pleasant Grove, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Parker won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. on December 8th. Fairfield knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Parker likes a good challenge. Pleasant Grove will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Paul W. Bryant at 3:30 p.m. on December 19th.
