Southwest recap Oct. 9, 2012
New Fairfield moved up to 52 from 87 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southwest. A 48-13 win over Bethel helped the Rebels improve their standing.
Brookfield suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after losing to Newtown. The Bobcats had been ranked 18th, but fell to 41 following the defeat.
Andrew Tarantino put up the best numbers through the air as the Nighthawks defeated Brookfield. He finished with nine completions for 192 yards and four touchdowns. Tarantino's favorite target this week was Dan Hebert, who caught two passes for 82 yards.
Justin Townsend was the best wideout in the league this week as Bunnell fell to Masuk. Townsend tallied four receptions for 123 yards. Tegh Terrell helped Bunnell's passing attack out by catching two balls for 24 yards.
Joe Pacheco was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 294 yards on 27 carries as New Fairfield lost to the Panthers. Teammate Nick Guardi added to the ground attack by rushing for 70 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Brad Westmark of Rich Angarano's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1015. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, Anthony Fata's team's Pacheco has rushed for 1081 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Thomas Milone. The Masuk star has 17 catches for 414 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Oxford takes on Newtown. At the moment, the Wolverines are in fifth, while Steve George's team is in second.
Weston extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Immaculate, 48-20. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Trojans.
