The East Hardy Cougars will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Robert C. Byrd Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. East Hardy is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, East Hardy lost to Northern at home by a decisive 40-25 margin. East Hardy has struggled against Northern recently, as their match on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Xavia Barber, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Barber is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Miller, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Robert C. Byrd faced Sissonville in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Robert C. Byrd secured a 42-36 W over Sissonville on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Robert C. Byrd.
East Hardy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Robert C. Byrd, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
East Hardy ended up a good deal behind Robert C. Byrd when the teams last played back in December of 2022, losing 46-27. Can East Hardy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
