Football Recap: Cypress Woods Skates Past Cypress Creek with Ease + How To Watch

Cypress Woods extended their winning streak (dating back to last season) to four on Friday, bumping them up to 3-0. They claimed a resounding 42-10 victory over the Cypress Creek Cougars. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wildcats' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Cougars are ranked 618th).

Cypress Woods had a senior duo take command as Darien Rogers threw for 237 yards and four touchdowns on only 16 passes and Jonathon Taylor picked up 168 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Taylor's longest reception was for an incredible 88 yards.

Cypress Woods didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Cypress Creek to a completion percentage of just 47.6%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Ryan McKnight, Mehki McKenzie, and Ashton Meador, who each logged one passes deflected. Cypress Woods hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.57 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Cypress Woods' defense also made the game a nightmare for the opposing QB, racking up seven sacks. In that department, Jaiden Ogletree was the leader with two. Another thorn in Cypress Creek's side was Siaire Andrews, who picked up a sack and made 12 total tackles.

As for Cypress Creek, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3. Despite 64 more yards than Cypress Woods, the Cougars couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

When it comes to explaining why Cypress Creek lost, don't look at Garland Wilburn. Despite the final result, he rushed for 121 yards, and also caught one score.

Cypress Woods and Cypress Creek will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Wildcats will take on rival Waller at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Cypress Creek is set to challenge their familiar foe Stratford at 6:30 p.m. on the 25th.
