The Pine Lake Prep Pride will venture away from home to challenge the Mountain Island Charter Raptors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Pine Lake Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Pine Lake Prep needed a bit of extra time to put away Lake Norman Charter. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Knights 3-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pride.
Emery Jensen spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up 20 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Pine Lake Prep's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ava Cornacchione, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Sydney Gillmore was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mountain Island Charter, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Langtree Charter Academy get on the board and left with a 3-0 win on Thursday.
Izzy Leppert made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base.
Pine Lake Prep's record is now 9-2. As for Mountain Island Charter, their record now sits at 2-7.
Mountain Island Charter's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pine Lake Prep has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Mountain Island Charter, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Pine Lake Prep's sizable advantage in that area, the Raptors will need to find a way to close that gap.
Pine Lake Prep took their victory against Mountain Island Charter when the teams last played on Tuesday by a conclusive 17-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pride since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
