Gaston County: No Public vs. Private Matchups
The Gaston Gazette reported this week that Gaston County Public Schools athletic directors voted that their schools will not be scheduled to play private schools anymore in any sport.
Eight of the nine athletic directors voted in favor of the proposal, the Gazette reported. One athletic director was not at the meeting.
“The primary issue is it’s just two different sets of rules that they go by and what we go by,” Gaston County Schools AD Butch Adams told the Gazette. “They have their own rules and they don’t always coincide with ours.”
If accepted, the rule will not be in effect in tournaments hosted by Gaston County schools or cross country meets featuring multiple teams. Also, the Highland Tech football team would be excluded from the proposal because it plays an independent schedule.
