Basketball Recap: Boca Ciega Comes Up Short

Boca Ciega suffered their closest loss since January 31, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of the Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate Phoenix by a score of 47-44. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Phoenix apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2019.

When it comes to explaining why Boca Ciega lost, don't look at Jelani Nix Jr. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 13 en route to 22 points. The dominant performance gave Nix Jr a new career-high in points.

EMANI BROWN continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 11 boards. BROWN is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of TASHANDA MADZVIMBO, who posted nine points.

Boca Ciega dropped their record down to 9-8 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-4.

Boca Ciega wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 53-47 win against Lakewood on the 13th. As for Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-46 defeat against Berkeley Prep on the 14th.
