Softball Recap: Union Pines Extends Winning Streak to Five

Union Pines had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Southern Lee on Friday. Union Pines was the clear victor by a 16-2 margin over Southern Lee. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Allie Bauer was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Elizabeth Andrews was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Trinity Whitt was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-4.

Union Pines always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Union Pines pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Southern Lee, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Union Pines will take on rival Pinecrest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Southern Lee is set to challenge their familiar foe Lee County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
