Liberty relied on the efforts of Leysen Rodrigues, who threw for 254 yards and five touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and Jaxon Bell, who gained 190 total yards and two touchdowns. Bell's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 105 rushing yards. Makoa Barros also helped with three TDs in total.
Liberty's run defense was locked in: Heritage could only muster -2.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Tasi Mejia for the heroic effort on defense: he. Liberty didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.1.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Pittsburg on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Antioch out of the water with a 56-3 final score. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Pirates' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Panthers are ranked 263rd).
Pittsburg's win came from a few key players Liberty will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Rolph (RJ) Mosley Jr., who picked up 119 receiving yards and a pair of scores. He showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 53 yards. Another player making a difference was Javale Jones, who rushed for 36 yards and one touchdown.
One reason for the win was Pittsburg's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Nico Pavlin, Joshua Manning, and Ha'Angana Tau, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Antioch's side was Pavlin, who picked up a sack and made six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Liberty's record now sits at 8-2. As for Pittsburg, their record is now 9-1.
Liberty lost to Pittsburg on the road by a decisive 29-12 margin in their previous meeting back in October. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
