The Bruce Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 61-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Houlka. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Bruce in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost eight in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Bruce lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ashton Pierce. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Markeevis Gladney was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Houlka found their leader in underclassman Jerome Staton, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. It was the first time this season that Staton scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Nehemiah Flemmings, who scored 11 points.
Bruce has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Houlka, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bruce will take on the Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ingomar presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Trojans in Mississippi (the Falcons are ranked 78th, while the Trojans are ranked 269th). As for Houlka, they will be playing at home against the Seminoles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
