The team relied heavily on Trey Myers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Walker Sullivan was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Mize hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Wayne Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Stringer. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jaguars have posted since April 30, 2024.
Colton Stringer was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stringer was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Cohen Walley tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits.
Back at the plate, Cale Graham and Patten Shirley did most of the damage at the plate: Graham went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Shirley went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Graham a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Wooten, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Mize's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Wayne Academy, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-4.
