The Western Plains Bobcats will head out on the road to square off against the Deerfield Spartans on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kansas (Western Plains is ranked 306th, while Deerfield is ranked 309th).
Western Plains scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Heartland Christian 61-30 at home. Western Plains has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 26 points or more this season.
Meanwhile, Deerfield entered their tilt with Granada with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Deerfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Granada on Monday and snuck past 46-43.
The victory got Western Plains back to even at 5-5. As for Deerfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season.
Western Plains didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Deerfield in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 44-39 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Deerfield's Jesus Amaro, who scored 20 points along with five assists and three steals. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Western Plains to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
