The Space Coast Vipers lost against the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas back in November of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Space Coast took a 44-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Smyrna Beach. Space Coast has not had much luck with New Smyrna Beach recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Space Coast saw an underclassman step up: Phillayjah Carroll scored 18 points. Carroll has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lashiya Walker, who scored six points.
New Smyrna Beach's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paris Thompson led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Thompson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailee Mokwe, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Space Coast's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for New Smyrna Beach, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-5.
Space Coast won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Rockledge at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. Hopefully Rockledge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 last Monday.
