AA Region III recap October 29, 2013
Fairfield Central added to the longest winning streak in AA Region III this week by beating Pelion, 33-16. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Griffins.
The Panthers lost to Fairfield Central 33-16 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Demetrius Davis' team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. DeAndre Belton threw for 153 and 2 touchdowns and Compton Walker had 71 yards receiving. On the ground Belton contributed 91 yards. Tyren White helped Fairfield Central's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 39 yards.
Belton was the best running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 91 yards as the Griffins defeated Pelion. Joseph Young also contributed to the rushing game with 71 yards on the ground.
Fairfield Central's Belton and Kewaun Squirewell have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Belton has thrown for 1,325 yards this season, while Squirewell has 22 catches for 394 yards. Peter Easaw from Keenan leads the league in rushing with 680 yards.
A big matchup in AA Region III this week will be when North Central takes on the Griffins. As it stands, the Knights are in fourth, while Fairfield Central is in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when North Central takes on the Griffins. Louis Clyburn's team has allowed 181 points this season, while Fairfield Central has given up 97. The Knights allowed 26 points last week as they fell to Columbia.
Eau Claire made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,174 from 13,079. The improvement was largely due to a 29-12 victory over the Shamrocks last week.
