Basketball Game Preview: Wewahitchka Gators vs. Covenant Christian

Having just played yesterday, the Wewahitchka Gators will head out on the road to face off against Covenant Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Wewahitchka is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Liberty County on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Wewahitchka lost 85-65 to Liberty County. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 644th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 236th).

Wewahitchka's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Rhemy Patrick, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 22 points and eight rebounds, and Kaden Brooks, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points. Patrick has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Bryce Ethridge was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Covenant Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch back in December of 2024 as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 67-20 loss at the hands of Port St. Joe.

Wewahitchka dropped their record down to 4-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Covenant Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.

Everything came up roses for Wewahitchka against Covenant Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 78-26 win. In that matchup, Wewahitchka amassed a halftime lead of 33-13, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
