Basketball Recap: Pine River-Backus Extends Winning Streak to Three

Pine River-Backus won against Swanville last Monday with 77 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Pine River-Backus Tigers walked away with a 77-70 victory over the Sebeka Trojans. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 61-58 win the Trojans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Despite the defeat, Sebeka saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Max Lake went 13 for 26 on his way to 29 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. That was a full 41.4% of Sebeka's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunnar Ament, who put up 11 points.

The victory (which was Pine River-Backus' third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.0 points per game. As for Sebeka, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Pine River-Backus will venture away from home to face off against Red Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pine River-Backus has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 240 points over their last three games. As for Sebeka, they will challenge Verndale at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
