Lampeter-Strasburg and Manheim Central are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Pioneers will take on the Barons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lampeter-Strasburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Lampeter-Strasburg nor Lebanon made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Pioneers took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cedars. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Pioneers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Lampeter-Strasburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Tipping, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Brayden Hart also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Manheim Central had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past the Eagles 10-1.
The team relied heavily on Cam Thompson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Groff, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Manheim Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matches.
Manheim Central's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 6 runs. As for Lampeter-Strasburg, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 12-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lampeter-Strasburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Manheim Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lampeter-Strasburg couldn't quite get it done against Manheim Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Pioneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
