Two dominant guards in Colby Wilburn and Luke Fawns are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Rowan County Vikings's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Montgomery County Indians at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Rowan County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Rowan County humbled the Wildcats with a 81-44 victory. Given Rowan County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Wildcats are ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rowan County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Wilburn led the charge by going 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 2 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Mirus, who scored 15 points along with six assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Montgomery County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 62-48 fall against Woodford County.
Rowan County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Montgomery County, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-14.
Rowan County skirted past the Indians 58-55 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rowan County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
