A feisty cat fight will be fought as Caldwell Cougars challenge Borah Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Caldwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Caldwell will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Vallivue, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Caldwell walked away with a 6-2 victory over Vallivue on Thursday.
The team relied heavily on Kloe Fogle, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Liliana Hernandez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Borah posted their closest win since May 17, 2024 on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Parma 7-5.
Justice Pruitt made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Pruitt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Kayla Campbell was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Alice Brown was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Borah's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Caldwell, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-3.
Borah's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Caldwell has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Borah, though, as they've been averaging 12.7 hits. Given Caldwell's sizable advantage in that area, Borah will need to find a way to close that gap.
Caldwell took their win against Borah in their previous matchup on March 12th by a conclusive 13-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Caldwell since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
