The Red River Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Mansfield Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Red River focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday.
After a string of three wins, Red River's good fortune finally ran out. They were beaten by Many 52-18. Red River was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-8.
The losing side was boosted by Montreveun Smith, who rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.1 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Mansfield got themselves on the board against Winnfield on Friday, but Winnfield never followed suit. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 38-0 victory over the Tigers. Considering Mansfield has won four matches by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mansfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rykeelin Vanzant, who rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Mansfield also got a significant boost from Kalvin " k2 " jackson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.
Many's victory bumped their season record to 6-2 while Red River's defeat dropped theirs to 3-6.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Red River has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 211.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mansfield struggles in that department as they've been even better at 249.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Red River couldn't quite finish off Mansfield in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 and fell 32-30. Can Red River avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
