The team relied heavily on Karis Dunham, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Halina Matijevich was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
South Side always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Sewickley Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cornell on Monday. Sewickley Academy blew past Cornell 15-2. Sewickley Academy hasn't had any issues with Cornell recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Charlotte Andrews (2028) made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Gabby Edmunds (2028) and Sophie Crichton (2027) did most of the damage at the plate: Edmunds (2028) got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs, while Crichton (2027) went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Quincy Sirko (2025), who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
South Side now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Sewickley Academy, their record now sits at 11-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Side has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sewickley Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
