Laguna Beach and Marina are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Laguna Beach Breakers will head out on the road to square off against the Marina Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Laguna Beach was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 73-68 to Newport Harbor. While losing is never fun, Laguna Beach can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while Newport Harbor is ranked 51st).
The losing side was boosted by Dylan Mceachern, who scored 27 points. He hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Halvorson, who scored 14 points.
Marina posted their closest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Fountain Valley 72-70. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Marina.
Laguna Beach now has a losing record at 12-13. As for Marina, their win bumped their record up to 18-7.
Laguna Beach came up short against Marina in their previous matchup on January 10th, falling 60-53. Can Laguna Beach avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
