2A District 8 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Northlake Christian made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,170 from 8,057. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 27-16 victory over Pope John Paul II last week.
The Wolverines' Josh O'Rear and Dane Landry have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A District 8 in both passing and receiving yards. O'Rear has thrown for 873 yards this season, while Landry, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 20 catches for 408 yards. Springfield's Gharmaine Ashton leads the league in rushing yards with 654.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Northlake Christian takes on Aquinas. Tony Agresta's team is currently in second, while the Falcons are in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Bulldogs take on Pine. Springfield has allowed 120 points this season, while the Raiders have given up 146. Ryan Serpas' team allowed 14 points last week as it topped St. Helena Central.
The Bulldogs led the league in scoring this week after putting up 47 points on the Hawks. Shaquille Smith ran for 105 yards and caught two passes for 91 yards in the win.
