The Independence Patriots will head out on the road to challenge the Providence Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Independence focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
Independence scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They breezed by Garinger at home to the tune of 85-24. The win was just what Independence needed coming off of a 63-39 loss in their prior contest.
Independence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nick Barnes, who scored 18 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barnes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Zion Bosley-Slade, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Providence, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-42 loss to the Bulldogs on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Providence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 98th).
Independence pushed their record up to 15-5 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Providence, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.
Everything went Independence's way against the Panthers in their previous matchup back in January as the Patriots made off with a 56-32 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Independence since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
