The Wells Leopards's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 44-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wendover. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wells in their matchups with Wendover: they've now lost three in a row.
Wendover found their leader in underclassman Millie Hicks, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Hicks' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Natalie Alvarez, who scored six points along with five assists and four steals.
Wells' defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.0 points per game. As for Wendover, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wells will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on McDermitt at 1:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024. Wendover will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Bryce Valley at 5:30 p.m. on December 28th.
