Baseball Recap: Oscar Smith Takes a Loss

Oscar Smith dropped their record down to 8-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Grassfield Grizzlies by a score of 4-2. The Tigers were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Grizzlies' pitchers proved too tough.

Braden Copeland made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and one double. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

As for Grassfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

On Grassfield's side, Logan Shaw tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Shaw has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jameson Dick and Ayden Farris did most of the damage at the plate: Dick went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Farris got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Farris has posted over his last eight matches.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oscar Smith will square off against Indian River at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Braves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.94 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Grassfield, they will take on Deep Creek at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Grizzlies are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
