After losing to the Newport Buffaloes the last time they met, Harrisburg Christian decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Harrisburg Christian snuck past Newport with a 41-37 win on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Harrisburg Christian.
Leading Harrisburg Christian to victory were Cooper Gesswein and Eli Stargel. Gesswein scored 14 points along with two blocks, while Stargel scored eight points along with four steals. Stargel has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Sunday, who scored six points along with two steals.
Newport's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Burns, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Landon Zaring was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
The victory got Harrisburg Christian back to even at 7-7. As for Newport, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Harrisburg Christian will take on Varsity Opponent at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newport, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against East Juniata at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully East Juniata focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday.
