The Smithville Tigers pushed their score all the way to 33 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 45-33 to Gonzales. Smithville lost against Gonzales in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 52-44 score last time.
Despite the loss, Smithville still got an impressive performance from Ramonz Adams, who rushed for 47 yards and three touchdowns, and also caught a touchdown.
Gonzales' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Duty, who threw for 183 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes. Another player making a difference was Rocky Gallegos, who rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Smithville's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. As for Gonzales, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Smithville will head out on the road to face off against Cuero at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cuero will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. As for Gonzales, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against La Grange at 7:30 p.m.
