Portola is 1-9 against Biggs since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wolverines at 1:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Portola's win against Loyalton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers won by a run and slipped past the Grizzlies 16-15. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Portola got a massive performance out of Annie Tate, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits Tate has posted since back in March. Ainsleigh Pruitt was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Portola kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Biggs ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Hamilton 4-3. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Braves recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Gracie Sheppard spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game.
At the plate, Biggs' win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Allie Little, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Portola pushed their record up to 15-8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Biggs, their victory bumped their record up to 18-3-1.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Portola hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. However, it's not like Biggs struggles in that department as they've averaged .406. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Portola suffered a grim 22-8 defeat to Biggs when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
