Basketball Recap: Monday's Defeat Ends Wando's Winning Streak

If Wando was riding high fresh off their 55-28 takedown of Myrtle Beach last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wando Warriors fell to the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles 54-49. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Wando lost on Monday, don't look at Isabel Waite. Despite the final result, she posted 13 points along with seven boards and seven steals. That's the most steals Waite has posted since back in December of 2023. Makenna Reynolds was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Gray Collegiate Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kadence Walker-Lee out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Walker-Lee is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Raina Mayers, who had 11 points.

Wando's defeat dropped their record down to 12-1. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wando will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on St. James at 5:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Gray Collegiate Academy will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Butler at 11:30 a.m. on January 4, 2025. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Butler sitting on eight straight wins and Gray Collegiate Academy on three.
