Baseball Game Preview: Ida B. Wells Guardians vs. Grant Generals

Ida B. Wells and Grant are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Guardians will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Generals at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Grant will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Ida B. Wells extended their winning streak to ten on Wednesday. Everything went the Guardians' way against Franklin as they made off with a 14-2 victory.

Oliver Hastings looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

At the plate, Cam Hammer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Ramsey Prentice was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Ida B. Wells kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, while Grant put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Cleveland. The Generals blew past the Warriors 15-0. The win was nothing new for the Generals as they're now sitting on five straight.

Ida B. Wells pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Grant, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7.

Ida B. Wells couldn't quite finish off Grant in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Guardians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
