III Section III recap November 13, 2013
Saguaro extended the longest winning streak in III Section III this week by beating Washington, 62-21. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Sabercats.
Saguaro took down the Rams 62-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Luke Rubenzer threw for 256 yards and 6 touchdowns and ran for 151 yards in the win.
He went 17-20 with 0 interceptions.
Logan Johns made the biggest impact on defense this week as Higley fell to Canyon del Oro. The 6-foot-2 player recorded 1 fumble.
Christian Kirk was a beast in the backfield as Jason Mohns' team topped Washington.
Cole Forsgren was the best receiver in the league this week as Williams Field beat Agua Fria. Forsgren racked up 4 receptions for 120 yards. Josh Page helped Williams Field's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 35 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Sabercats' Rubenzer and J.T. Nettleton have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Rubenzer has thrown for 3,065 yards this season, while Nettleton has 43 catches for 1,123 yards. Queen Creek's Weston Barlow leads the league in rushing yards with 1,544.
In 133 carries Dominic Orona has put up 962 yards this year.
The Black Hawks' Forsgren needs only 50 receiving yards against the Dorados to crack 1,000 for the season. He has recorded 40 catches for 950 yards this year.
Saguaro led III Section III in scoring this week by notching 62 points on Jon Becktold's team. Rubenzer ran for 151 yards during the win.
