The Canby Cougars pushed their score all the way to 72 on Sunday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Davis 78-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (66), Canby still had to take the loss.
Canby's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jack Brauckmiller, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds, and Jaxon Lawson who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brauckmiller has scored all season. Trevin Slagle was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Canby's loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-2. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Davis, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canby will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Albany at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th. Davis won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Eastside Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on December 18th. One thing working in Eastside Catholic's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
