Football Recap: Beaumont Skates Past Redlands with Ease

After only 12 points in their last match, Beaumont made sure to put some points up on the board against Redlands on Tuesday. The Cougars took their game with ease, bagging a 45-6 victory over the Terriers. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by 25 points or more this season.

Beaumont found their leader in sophomore Tessa Martinez, who threw for 338 yards and six touchdowns while completing 78.1% of her passes. Those 338 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Martinez. Another player making a difference was Laylene Fontes, who rushed for 25 yards and one score.

One reason for the win was Beaumont's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. In that department, Kiera Houston was the leader with six. She is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as she's now made five or more in each of the last six games she's played.

Beaumont pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.8 points over those games. As for Redlands, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Beaumont is set to face off against their familiar foe Cajon at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Cougars 5.5, the Cowboys 7.8) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Redlands will challenge rival Redlands East Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
