Gulf is 0-3 against Leto since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Gulf Buccaneers will head out on the road to face off against the Leto Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Gulf focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Gulf was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-53 to Tampa Bay Tech. Gulf has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Gulf got a solid performance out of Jeremiah Long, who scored 20 points. Long scored a full 37.7% of Gulf's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jaydn Wood, who scored 6 points.
Even though they lost, Gulf were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tampa Bay Tech only posted five.
Meanwhile, even though Jefferson scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, Leto still came out on top. Leto walked away with a 66-56 victory over Jefferson. The victory was just what Leto needed coming off of a 84-53 defeat in their prior matchup.
Leto's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Daniel Delgardo, III, who scored 23 points along with 6 rebounds, and Christopher Cruz, who scored 15 points along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals. The match was Delgardo, III's third in a row with at least ten points. Jerry Couzens was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 5 steals.
Spoto's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Gulf's defeat dropped theirs to 0-1.
Gulf was taken down by Leto 87-42 in their previous meeting back in January of 2022. Can Gulf avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
