The David City Scouts were the 55-46 winner over the Heartland Huskies when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. David City fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 37-35. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points David City has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why David City lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Clayton Zavodny. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Svoboda, who scored two points along with six rebounds.
Heartland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Thane Wetjen led the charge by scoring six points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Wetjen hasn't dropped below three blocks for three straight games. Luis Alvarez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
David City has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for Heartland, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
David City will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Cross County is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Heartland, they will take on the Broncos at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
