The Baptist Prep Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Mt. Vernon-Enola Warhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Baptist Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Baptist Prep didn't have quite enough to beat White County Central and fell 7-6.
Aaron Fielder made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Nick Boyette was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Vernon-Enola). Everything went their way against Wonderview on Monday as they made off with a 15-5 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Warhawks needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Tucker Henry made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Mt. Vernon-Enola's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Rodgers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Asher Adams also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Mt. Vernon-Enola was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Baptist Prep's loss dropped their record down to 10-4-1. As for Mt. Vernon-Enola, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-9.
Mt. Vernon-Enola's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Baptist Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. It's a different story for Mt. Vernon-Enola, though, as they've only averaged .230. Will they be able to contain Baptist Prep's hitters?
