Southwest is a perfect 10-0 against Southside since March of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Dragons will venture away from home to take on the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Southwest's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Southside's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Wednesday, Southwest beat Jay 4-1. The win continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.
Southwest got a great performance from Alex Rico as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Rico has posted since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on David Samudio, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Romeo Castillo, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Southside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of McCollum. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by just one run.
Achillies Sepulveda put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Sepulveda wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joey Ramirez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Ramirez also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
Southwest's victory bumped their record up to 12-4-1. As for Southside, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.
Southwest came out on top in a nail-biter against Southside in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
